Average pace per km

5:00min/km

Same-pace equivalents are arithmetic splits, not race predictions.

Average speed
12.00 km/h
5 km at same pace
25:00
10 km at same pace
50:00

What this calculator tells you

Pace is simply time divided by distance. Seeing the same effort as pace and speed makes training plans and treadmill settings easier to interpret.

How to use the Running Pace Calculator

  1. 1

Choose kilometres or miles and enter distance.

  2. 2

    Enter hours, minutes, and seconds.

  3. 3

Use the pace and speed outputs to plan comparable sessions.

Formula and interpretation

Method

Pace = elapsed time ÷ distance. Average speed = distance ÷ elapsed time.

How to read the result

Use the result for even-paced split planning. Terrain, wind, heat, and fatigue can make a sensible real-world pace vary from the arithmetic.

Important limitations

Equivalent-distance times assume exactly the same pace and are not race predictions. Use the separate predictor for an endurance-adjusted estimate.

Running Pace Calculator questions

Is pace the same as speed?

They describe the same movement differently: pace is time per distance, while speed is distance per time.

Why is outdoor pace less stable?

Hills, turns, surface, weather, GPS error, and pacing all change moment-to-moment speed.
