What this calculator tells you

Basal metabolic rate is an estimate of the energy your body uses at rest for essential functions. It is the starting point for a calorie-maintenance estimate, not a daily intake target by itself.

How to use the BMR Calculator

  1. 1

Select the equation constant and your preferred units.

  2. 2

Enter age, height, and current weight.

  3. 3

Use the result as a resting baseline, not a complete calorie prescription.

Formula and interpretation

Method

Mifflin–St Jeor: 10 × weight(kg) + 6.25 × height(cm) − 5 × age, then +5 for the male equation or −161 for the female equation.

How to read the result

Your real resting expenditure can differ. Use the estimate as a baseline, then combine it with activity and observed weight trends.

Important limitations

The formula was developed from adult group data and uses sex-specific constants. Pregnancy, illness, unusual body composition, and some medications can make it less representative.

BMR Calculator questions

Is BMR the same as TDEE?

No. BMR estimates resting energy use; TDEE adds activity and daily movement.

Why can my actual BMR differ?

Predictive equations describe averages. Lean mass, genetics, health, and measurement conditions all affect resting expenditure.
