What this calculator tells you
A calorie deficit is the difference between energy expenditure and intake. This planner makes the arithmetic visible and keeps the output tied to gradual—not extreme—weekly change.
How to use the Calorie Deficit Calculator
- 1
Start with a realistic maintenance-calorie estimate.
- 2
Choose a gradual weekly change goal.
- 3
Review progress over several weeks and adjust conservatively.
Formula and interpretation
Method
Estimated daily target = maintenance calories − estimated weekly energy gap ÷ 7. The conversion uses 7,700 kcal per kilogram or 3,500 kcal per pound as a rough planning rule.
How to read the result
Treat the result as a starting point. Monitor energy, training, hunger, and average weight trend, then make small changes rather than chasing daily scale movement.
Important limitations
Weight change is not perfectly linear, and the energy content of weight loss changes over time. Do not use this tool during pregnancy or for eating-disorder treatment.
Calorie Deficit Calculator questions
How fast should weight loss be?
CDC guidance describes about 1–2 lb per week as gradual for many adults, but a suitable rate depends on starting size, health, and professional advice.
Why did weight stop matching the calculation?
Energy needs change with body weight and activity, while water and digestion obscure short-term trends. Re-estimate rather than forcing a larger deficit.
